Celebrity Traitors 2026: Richard E Grant banished in episode 3

The Celebrity Traitors returned to BBC One with an explosive episode that saw the Faithfuls score an early victory by unmasking their first Traitor at the very first Round Table.

In a twist that will have come as little surprise to viewers, it was acting legend Richard E Grant who became the first celebrity to be banished from the castle after his disastrous blunder came back to haunt him.

Richard's Costly Mistake

The Hollywood star had been firmly in the firing line since the opening episode, when he left his fellow contestants – and viewers at home – stunned by seemingly giving away his secret identity.

The actor appeared to accidentally expose himself as a Traitor during a conversation with comedian Joe Lycett, immediately placing a huge target on his back.

Despite his best efforts to recover from the slip-up, Richard's costly mistake proved impossible to shake off as suspicions reached boiling point at the first Round Table.

Traitor Betrayal at the Round Table

The majority of Faithful voted to banish Richard, with the star suffering one final betrayal at the hands of his own teammates.

Fellow Traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster both voted to send him packing, throwing their ally under the bus in a bid to protect their own identities.

Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh was among those to raise eyebrows over Richard's behaviour at the Round Table, while other celebrities were left wondering whether his apparent confession was a mistake or part of a bigger game plan.

She told Grant she would vote for him, saying: “I’ve come in here tonight with the intention of voting for you, Richard.

“You came into the bar and you said, I am a traitor.

“It was a bold move. It was chaotic and we love you for your chaos.

“I think we are at risk of being the most idiotic group of faithfuls if we go for someone else tonight based on nothing at all.”

Comedian Joanne McNally, on the other hand, defended the actor, saying: “It was such an obvious joke.

“I think the people vying for Richard are using him as a fall guy and a decoy.”

Who Are the Traitors in Celebrity Traitors 2026?

Love Island host Maya Jama and Hollywood actor Richard E. Grant were originally handpicked by Claudia Winkleman to secretly deceive their unsuspecting fellow celebrities.

But the duo soon gained a new accomplice when comedian James Acaster was recruited into the fold.

Amol and James were both handed the chance to plead their case to join the Traitors, with the catch that only one of them could survive. James managed to secure his place, while Amol's hopes of winning the competition were cut short.

Who Was Murdered in Episode Three?

During Thursday night’s episode, the two remaining Traitors, Maya Jama and James Acaster, were given the chance to recruit a new accomplice rather than carry out another murder.

With mathematician Hannah Fry and model Jerry Hall both in the running, the duo ultimately chose Hannah to join their ranks.

Their decision sparked confusion around the breakfast table the following morning, as the Faithfuls were left shocked to discover that nobody had been murdered overnight.

Who Was Banished from the Castle?

American actress Myha’la was banished from the castle during Thursday night's episode.

Despite desperately pleading with her fellow contestants to believe she was one of them, the star failed to shake off their suspicions and was ultimately voted out.

But the decision backfired when Myha’la revealed she was indeed a Faithful, prompting shocked faces and disappointed sighs around the table.

The disastrous mistake handed the Traitors a much-needed victory, levelling the score at 1-1.
