She is known for her competitive streak when it comes to sports, but the Princess of Wales is apparently just as keen when it comes to drinking games. Princess Anne's son-in-law, Mike Tindall, 47, revealed that the future queen dabbles in the popular party game beer pong—but when Catherine plays, she adds her own twist. Rather than filling the cups with beer, the mother of three opts for fizzy wine before taking turns throwing ping pong balls across a table into the opposing team's cups.
Prosecco Pong Instead of Beer Pong
'I knew the Princess of Wales was uber competitive because I'd seen her play a drinking game called beer pong, but normally we play prosecco pong,' the former rugby ace told Woman & Home. It is not just Catherine known for her drinking game skills, but also Prince William, or, as Tindall previously referred to him, 'one pint Willy,' because 'he is not the best of drinkers.'
The Mail on Sunday's Editor-at-Large, Charlotte Griffiths, previously recalled that William was such a skilled beer pong competitor that he taught her how to play some 14 years ago. 'I was staying at a friend's house for the weekend and, surprise, surprise, Prince William was there,' Griffiths recalled. 'All the lads started playing beer pong and I didn't actually know the rules, so I was looking around, not knowing what to do, and there came my knight in shining armour, Prince William, and he offered to teach me how to play.'
'It was when Catherine was expecting Prince George,' she added. 'He was so charming and nice.'
Catherine's Health and Alcohol
Earlier this year in March, when visiting a beer and cider tasting company in London, Catherine revealed she had cut back on alcohol 'since my diagnosis.' The 44-year-old, who was carrying out engagements with Prince William, had chemotherapy in 2024 and last year announced she was in remission from cancer. During a visit to Fabal Beerhall, the Prince and Princess were told about the Bermondsey Beer Mile, which is home to several craft breweries and tap rooms. When she was invited to try some beer and cider this afternoon, Catherine told owner Hannah Rhodes: 'Since my diagnosis I haven't had much alcohol.' She added: 'It's something I have to be a lot more conscious of now.' Ms Rhodes, who offered Catherine a soft drink instead, said: 'Fair enough.' Turning to William, Catherine patted her husband's knee and said: 'But you like your cider, don't you?'
Royal Ascot Behind the Scenes
It comes after Zara Tindall's husband Mike revealed details of the less glamorous side of Royal Ascot. Speaking on The Luxury Dispatch podcast with host Tom Chamberlin, however, Princess Anne's son-in-law revealed that, despite the pageantry and high fashion, there is a less enjoyable aspect. 'If it's too hot, it's a bit of a nightmare,' the husband of Zara Tindall and former rugby union ace said. Chamberlin then joked, 'Bit of SPF 50 on the top of the head,' to which Mike replied, 'Yeah, don't take the hat off, [or] a pool of water drops out.'
Elsewhere in the conversation, Mike explained how the Royal Procession is part of history that the royals aim to uphold. 'That British history, that is the history that we are trying to continue. The royal procession down the course, it's still a standalone feature of what happens at Royal Ascot.' Explaining the course of action, he said: 'You jump in cars. The fleet of cars that they use is very old, historical, good old-fashioned sort of cars. And they take you sort of to the edge of the Great Park. It's about a 20-minute carriage ride from start to finish.'
