Carol Vorderman has opened up about her two marriages, revealing that her first was a rebound after only knowing her husband for 14 weeks. The former Countdown star shared candid details about her past relationships and current love life in a new interview.
Carol Vorderman's First Marriage: A Rebound
Speaking on A Night In with Sally Lindsay on Channel 5, Carol discussed her first marriage to Christopher Mather in 1985. The marriage lasted just one year. She admitted, 'That one didn't count though, I had only known him weeks, 14 weeks. I was on the rebound and I thought, yeah, yeah.'
Carol also revealed she borrowed her wedding dress and evening dress from the costume department of the game show 3-2-1. 'I borrowed the wedding dress and I borrowed the evening dress from the costume cage from 3-2-1 and it was all mesh with sequins in the right places and then I got on stage and sang It's Raining Men, as the bride,' she explained.
Her Second Marriage and Regrets
Carol married Patrick King in 1989, with whom she has two children. They divorced in 2000. She has never publicly revealed the reason for their split but expressed regret about the divorce. 'I never said why my marriage broke down and we'd agreed never to talk about it publicly. The divorce is a regret of mine and my mum thinks that we should have stayed together,' she told Woman Magazine.
She added, 'He's now remarried so there's no chance of us getting back together. Had my career not taken off like it did, Paddy and I probably wouldn't have split up.'
Current Love Life: No Plans to Settle Down
Carol, now 65, has not remarried and prefers a non-monogamous lifestyle. She describes having multiple 'special friends' and is very happy with her current situation. 'I couldn't think of anything worse right now,' she said of a serious relationship. 'I love seeing mates, I've got lots of great mates. I have a great social life, I don't need anyone for money, I don't need anyone for anything really, other than the nice bits,' she laughed.
