Carol McGiffin has opened up about her regrets over marrying former TFI Friday host Chris Evans, admitting she 'didn't like him' for much of their marriage. The former Loose Women star, now 66, married Evans in 1991 before divorcing seven years later.
Speaking on the Suddenly Single podcast by Best Magazine, McGiffin questioned why they ever wed. 'I don't really know why we got married,' she said. 'We shouldn't have. For quite a lot of the time, I didn't like him.' She previously claimed on Loose Women that she had been 'swept along' by the relationship, telling herself she 'couldn't live without him'.
McGiffin indicated that Evans, now 60, pushed for marriage, but rejected any suggestion that financial motives played a role. Two decades after their split, she found love with Mark Cassidy, whom she met at a Loose Women wrap party in 2008 when she was 48 and he was 26. They eloped in Bangkok, Thailand, keeping the wedding secret from family and friends.
Reflecting on their intimate ceremony, McGiffin said: 'It was a bit tragic really. I was injured so it was impossible to dress up. Mark wore shorts and I had long trousers as I had a bandage on my knee. There is one picture.' She added that some relatives were upset they weren't told, but the couple waited six months to inform Cassidy's parents.
Evans has been married three times. After McGiffin, he wed Billie Piper in 2001, divorcing three years later. He then married Natasha Shishmanian in 2007, with whom he has four children, and also has an older daughter, Jade, from a previous relationship. Evans has spoken about his family life on his Virgin Radio show, including temporary separate sleeping arrangements after the birth of twins.
