Vintage For Victory, a beloved community event in Cardiff, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year by transforming Whitchurch Library Gardens into a bustling scene from the past. The festival, which has become a firm favourite with families, history enthusiasts, and vintage lovers, will take place from Thursday, July 9, to Sunday, July 12, 2026.
What to Expect at the Anniversary Event
The gardens will be taken back in time with the sounds of wartime classics, vintage performers, military displays, classic vehicles, and traders offering retro fashion and locally produced food and drink. Visitors are encouraged to dress for their favourite era as they explore the immersive event, which recreates the spirit of Britain's wartime years through entertainment, historical displays, and family-friendly activities.
From Community Celebration to Major Heritage Event
What began as a small community celebration has grown into one of Cardiff's best-known heritage events, showcasing Whitchurch while supporting local businesses and attracting thousands of visitors. The organisers attribute the milestone to the dedication of volunteers who work year-round to make the event happen.
A spokesperson for Team V4V said: "Many people don't realise that Vintage For Victory is organised by the same team of local residents who also deliver the Cardiff 5K – Race For Victory and the Noah's Ark Reindeer Run. We are a volunteer-led organisation that is passionate about creating events our community can be proud of. Our aim has always been to bring people together, support local businesses, showcase Whitchurch and Cardiff, and create memorable experiences for visitors of all ages. Every ticket purchased helps support an event run by local people, for local people, and we're incredibly proud of what our volunteers have achieved over the years."
More Than Just Vintage Fashion
Over the past decade, Vintage For Victory has evolved beyond celebrating the fashions and music of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. It now champions local businesses, provides a platform for community groups and entertainers, and offers a unique day out for visitors from across south Wales and beyond. The anniversary event promises live swing and vintage music, re-enactments, classic military vehicles, dance performances, and activities for all ages, all set against the backdrop of Whitchurch Library Gardens.
Looking Ahead to the Next Decade
As the event enters its second decade, organisers hope to honour the past while highlighting the power of community-led events. With thousands expected to attend, the 10th anniversary looks set to be the biggest and most memorable celebration yet, as Whitchurch once again steps back in time to relive the sights, sounds, and community spirit of the past.
