Byker Grove Stars: Where Are They Now as Ant and Dec Revive Classic Show

Nearly 20 years after Byker Grove ended, Ant and Dec have announced a revival of the iconic youth club drama. The show, which aired from 1989 to 2006, was known for tackling controversial issues like drug addiction, homosexuality, and child abuse. Its most famous storyline involved the accidental blinding of PJ (Ant McPartlin) by paintball, leading to the immortal line: 'He cannae see man!'

Ant and Dec, who played PJ and Duncan, went on to become one of the UK's most successful presenting duos. They have won Best Presenter at the National Television Awards for 21 consecutive years and front shows like I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and Britain's Got Talent. Despite initial dislike for each other, they remain close friends, with Dec serving as best man at Ant's second wedding in 2021.

Lyndyann Barrass, who played Spuggie, was one of the first cast members. She joined at age 12 and was devastated when her character was written out to live with her brother. Other notable cast members included Brett Adams as Noddy Fishwick, who featured in a groundbreaking gay kiss storyline in 1994.
