Bus Yard Future Uncertain as Liverpool ONE Plans Play Park

New Play Park to Replace Bus Yard Site

Liverpool ONE has announced plans for a new play area at Chavasse Park, called 'The Kingdom of the Liver Bird,' which will occupy the same land as the popular Bus Yard cocktail bar. A planning application has been submitted, with construction expected to begin in early 2027. The new space will cover approximately 1,010 square metres near the Sugar House Steps area, offering inclusive play opportunities for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, shaped by guest feedback.

Bus Yard Owner in Talks for New Location

The Bus Yard, which has operated at Chavasse Park for several years, rose to popularity at Crosby Marina and expanded to Liverpool's Peel Waters, Taskers in Aintree, and soon Wallasey beach. Owner Andy Laird confirmed he is in discussions with Liverpool ONE to secure a new site on the estate. “We're working with Liverpool ONE on exploring opportunities across the site, which we do every year. At the moment, we're exploring different avenues as we haven't secured a location, but we are still in talks,” Laird told the ECHO. He emphasised the positive relationship, adding, “Being at Liverpool ONE has been a massive success. People might think if we left there may be some sort of issue between us but it won't be the case as we've always had a beautiful relationship.”

Rolling Contract and Expansion Plans

The Bus Yard site operates on a rolling contract, and Laird hopes to finalise a new spot soon. Meanwhile, the brand continues to expand: in February, it teamed up with Taskers to launch 1958 Bistro at the Long Lane location, offering a new menu and dedicated dining area. In April, a new Bus Yard opened at Princes Docks, and a Wallasey beach site is pending.
