Chef Bryn Williams and Pop Star Wife Maintain 'Secret' Relationship, Declining All Media Requests

Welsh chef Bryn Williams, a celebrated culinary figure who has worked in some of Britain's most prestigious kitchens and launched award-winning restaurants, is set to appear on BBC's Saturday Kitchen this weekend. The 48-year-old chef, known for his appearances on Great British Menu and his own programmes for Welsh language channel S4C, will join fellow Welsh personality Alex Jones on the show, welcoming chefs including Mike Reid and Adejoké Bakare, plus special guest Phil Wang.

From Humble Beginnings to Culinary Stardom

Bryn Williams developed his appreciation for food and its provenance from a young age, honing his skills under the legendary Marco Pierre White. Throughout his career, his establishments—which previously included the renowned Odette's in London's Primrose Hill—have attracted famous guests such as Kylie Minogue, Paul McCartney, and Noel Gallagher. Despite this celebrity clientele, Williams remains grounded in his philosophy that "everyone is treated the same. The food is the most important thing for me, no matter who eats it," as he stated in a previous interview with S4C.

A Decade-Long Courtship and Intimate Welsh Wedding

During that same interview, Williams offered rare insight into his life with his pop star wife, Sharleen Spiteri, 58, the frontwoman of the band Texas. The couple married in 2018, a full decade after their initial encounter on the staircase of Odette's. Spiteri recalled the unexpected proposal during an appearance on BBC Radio 2's Breakfast Show, then presented by Chris Evans, saying: "Only after 10 years, he's actually asked to marry me. It took me that blooming long. Who knows what spurred him on?"

The couple tied the knot at a 15th-century church near Denbigh in North Wales, with the bride wearing a white lace gown created by close friend Stella McCartney. Following the ceremony, approximately 500 guests attended a reception held in a marquee at Williams' residence, with guest Chris Evans lending the newlyweds his Aston Martin DB9 for their journey.

Deliberate Privacy: 'We Say No to Everything'

Despite their respective celebrity statuses, Bryn and Sharleen have made a conscious decision to keep their relationship intensely private. In the 2023 S4C interview, Williams revealed that they consistently decline to appear together for media opportunities. "We both agreed we would keep it quiet, we only told friends and family and it was kept quiet for three to four years to be honest," he confessed. "Even now we say no to all requests. We are asked to do every TV show, every newspaper and magazine – even the wedding. We say no to everything."

Williams elaborated on their reasoning, emphasizing the importance of maintaining personal boundaries: "There has to be an element of life that only the both of us know about. If everyone knows everything about you – what's the point of that?" He also discussed his wife's growing fondness for Wales, noting that "Sharleen would live there tomorrow. After lockdown she had that feeling, suddenly after lockdown, that she would be happy in Llandyrnog. But I'm not quite ready yet."

Bryn Williams' appearance on Saturday Kitchen marks another milestone in his diverse career, which spans television presenting, authorship, and restaurant entrepreneurship. The show airs on BBC One on Saturdays at 10am and is available on BBC iPlayer.
