A groom has come to the defence of Victoria Beckham after her son Brooklyn claimed she 'hijacked' his first dance at his wedding, by sharing a video of his own mother's exuberant dance moves.
Joseph Maine posted a TikTok video showing his mother being carried around the dance floor by a friend at his wedding to husband Jack McWilliams. The clip, which has amassed over 25 million views, shows the mother bouncing up and down with her legs wrapped around the friend to a remix of 'I Love It' by Icona Pop and Charli xcx.
Maine wrote over the video: 'In Victoria Beckham's defence, this was my mom at our wedding.' He added in the caption: 'She asked our friend to pick her up. Let moms live. They need to shake it sometimes too.'
However, many commenters criticised the mother's dance and said it did not justify Victoria's behaviour. One wrote: 'I've never been so uncomfortable,' while another joked: 'My embarrassment is humiliated.'
Speaking to People, Maine expressed surprise at the backlash, saying: 'I just never imagined people would not be able to see the humour... There's so many expectations for how a mom is supposed to act.'
Brooklyn Beckham first broke his silence on the family feud on January 19, accusing his mother of ruining his first dance with wife Nicola Peltz at their 2022 wedding. He wrote on Instagram: 'Marc Anthony called me to the stage where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife, but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me.'
