Britney Spears has spoken out for the first time since her husband Sam Asghari announced their split, revealing she 'couldn't take the pain anymore'. In an Instagram post, the singer said she was 'a little shocked' that their six-year relationship had come to an end.
Mr Asghari, 29, filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Wednesday, citing 'irreconcilable differences'. Court documents show he is requesting that spousal support and legal fees be paid by Ms Spears, 41.
Addressing the breakup on social media, Ms Spears wrote: 'I'm not here to explain why because it's honestly nobody's business.' She added: 'I've been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it's far from reality.'
The singer admitted she has 'always had to hide my weaknesses' but said she would be 'as strong as I can' and is 'actually doing pretty damn good'.
Mr Asghari, an Iranian-American actor and fitness trainer, met Ms Spears in 2016 while she was filming the video for her song Slumber Party. He was a vocal supporter of her successful fight to end her father Jamie's conservatorship. The couple became engaged in September 2021 and married in a small ceremony last June.
In his own Instagram post, Mr Asghari said: 'After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.' He asked for kindness and thoughtfulness from the media and public.
