Loose Women star Brenda Edwards has debuted a striking new hairstyle following a marathon 22-hour salon session. The 57-year-old, who has already lost more than three dress sizes through diet and exercise, shared the results on Instagram, showing off long, swishy locks styled into locs.
The appointment, which ran from start to finish at 4am, coincided with Edwards's birthday. In a video posted to social media, she raised a glass of red wine alongside her hairstylist, Uche Abuah, whom she called her 'fairy locmother'. Edwards said: 'So we said we would wait until we were finished. And my fairy locmother has finished my hair for my birthday.'
Abuah later explained the significance of the term 'locs' over 'dreadlocks', writing on Instagram: 'Using the term “locs” instead of “dreads” is a matter of cultural accuracy and respect. Language shapes perception, and choosing words that honour the history and dignity of the people who wear locs helps move conversations away from outdated, colonial narratives and toward understanding and inclusion.'
Fans flooded Edwards with compliments, with one writing: 'The hair is amazing, happy birthday Brenda.' Another said: 'Happy Birthday! Your hair looks so good!' A third joked: '22hrs? Jeez! I hope you guys finished the bottle.'
Edwards, who rose to fame on The X Factor, is currently performing in the West End musical Paddington, playing the role of Tanya, a cardiac surgeon and neighbour to the Brown family. She is due on stage at 7pm tonight with her new look.
