Bradley Walsh surprised staff at The Crown Inn in Broad Hinton, Wiltshire, during a break from filming a new show. Bar manager Erin Williams, who took over the pub last year, admitted she had no idea who the TV star was – and told him so.
Manager's Awkward Admission
Erin explained that she grew up in South Africa and doesn't always know UK celebrities, but her fellow staff members recognised him straight away. Speaking to the Gazette and Herald, she said customers and staff were buzzing, with the pub's social media lead Kate exclaiming: “Oh my God, can you believe he’s here?”
Erin went on to say she apologised to Bradley for not recognising him and he replied with a humorous comment. "I'm South African so I didn't have a clue who he was," she shared. "He posed for a photo with us and I said to him, 'I'm so sorry but I don't know who you are'."
Bradley's Witty Reply
Sharing Bradley's response, she added: "He laughed and said, 'That's okay, I don't know who you are either'."
The 66-year-old is believed to have visited the pub while on a break from filming a new series called Out of This World, described as a mix of science, curiosity and comedy.
New Chase Spin-Off
As well as his latest project, the presenter is also fronting The Chase Around the World, a new spin-off that takes the quiz format overseas. The first episode saw six teams sprinting through Rome while tackling questions and puzzles. The slowest pair at the finish then had to go head-to-head with Chasers Anne Hegerty (The Governess) and Mark Labbett (The Beast).
The series continues across four more countries, with the next instalment set in Barcelona. There, teams will face challenges set by Jenny Ryan (The Vixen) and Darragh Ennis (The Menace), with correct answers giving them the chance to race across the city and reach Walsh ahead of their rivals.
And there’s a big consequence for falling behind: the last team to arrive must take on the Chasers in a showdown, while the winners progress to the next destination.
Bradley on the New Format
Reflecting on the new format, Bradley said: “I would describe it as The Chase… but around the world! It’s out and about. It was very different doing it on location, in these incredible places, instead of being in a studio. I’ve been locked in Elstree Studios for 17 years!“The locations were unbelievable. I loved it, I really did — but then again, I wasn’t chasing around, literally chasing around, the cities we were in.”
The Chase Around The World continues tonight at 9pm on ITV. The Chase also airs weekdays from 5pm on the same channel.
