Boy George is facing backlash after sharing a picture of a vulnerable homeless man on social media. On Monday morning (July 6), the Culture Club frontman took to Instagram, where he issued a cry for help to the homeless charity, Street Link. While travelling through London, the 65-year-old musician shared his concern for a member of the public curled up on the floor, seeking shade from the blistering heat in the capital.
Posting the Picture Online
Posting the picture online, he told his 900,000 followers about his unexpected interaction with the gentleman. He captioned the picture: "Hey Street Link, this guy is lying in the heat outside Camden Tube. I have covered him with some cardboard to protect his face, but he will probably get very sick or worse if he is left there. I told the staff, and I called your helpline, but no response. I hope you can do something. God speed!"
Fans React with Disappointment
Fans soon swarmed to the comments section to share their disappointment in the star's lack of support. Many pointed out that the Karma Chameleon hitmaker could have supported the individual by offering food, shelter, clothes, or a job to help him get back on his feet. One user fumed: "Why didn't you help him with medical attention and financial assistance instead of posting this for likes?" Another agreed: "Jesus, with all your money. Very decent of you to find cardboard and not call an ambulance."
Criticism and Praise
A third echoed: "If you really want to help a homeless person, feed him, give him clothes and find him some kind of work - even the most humble job... If each of us helped even one homeless person, there would be no homeless people on our planet." A fourth asked: "Am I alone in feeling like it's wildly inappropriate to post them? They don't look like they're in any position to give legitimate consent." Meanwhile, others praised the chart-topper for his call to action online, with one user posting: "Bless him and bless you [heart emoji] I'm praying for him. No living being should endure this!" Another agreed: "You have such a beautiful, kind heart," as a third pointed out: "Bringing in the proper authorities to help is always best for the long term. Plz give an update if possible."
Previous Political Comments
It comes after the music icon called out politicians who are "hating" the world in a fiery rant. Back in May, the eighties pop icon attended the 2026 British LGBT Awards, where he picked up the Best Music Artist and a Lifetime Achievement Award. In an interview with The Mirror, he shared his thoughts on the recent surge in support for Reform UK across the country. He told the outlet: "In politics and pop, you get what you deserve. I want to live in a world where politicians do not care what I say about them. Get on with your job. If you're replying to someone who's famous, you're not concentrating on what's really important, which is the country. You can go around saying, 'I hate this, I hate that'. But then, in your real life, if you're not doing anything to make the world better, how are you just anything but noise? You're just another person repeating what you're hearing on the internet, and it's very dangerous."
