The Dubliner Bar in Boston, Massachusetts, has shared an emotional farewell to the Tartan Army after the World Cup ended. The pub became the unofficial home of Scotland supporters during the tournament, hosting thousands of travelling fans before and after Scotland's group-stage matches against Haiti and Morocco in Boston.
The venue quickly became the heart of the Tartan Army's celebrations, with supporters filling the bar every day, singing into the early hours and creating an atmosphere that attracted attention on both sides of the Atlantic. The relationship between the pub and Scotland fans became so strong that, after the Tartan Army departed, The Dubliner even closed for a day during England's match against Ghana.
Pub's temporary closure
Announcing the temporary closure on Instagram at the time, the pub joked: "We've decided to give our staff a day off and are closing today, they've worked incredibly hard over the last two weeks and deserve it." It added: "Thankfully there's nothing happening in Boston today so we will be back tomorrow. #noscotlandnoparty."
Now, weeks after Scotland's World Cup journey came to an end, the pub has reflected on the unforgettable fortnight with an emotional TikTok that has already been viewed more than 71,000 times. Shared earlier this week, the montage features some of the best moments from the tournament, including the sea of Scotland flags that filled the bar, the famous Norwegian supporters performing the Viking Row, queues stretching through the pub, and television news crews broadcasting from outside.
Heartfelt messages
On top of the footage, The Dubliner wrote: "How are we supposed to say goodbye to all of this..." While the caption had another heartfelt message, which read: "How can we move on. Grá mo chroí. Slán go fóill, a chairde." The Irish Gaelic phrase Grá mo chroí translates to love of my heart and Slán go fóill, a chairde translates to goodbye for now, my friends.
The nostalgic video quickly gained attention from many Scots, who admitted they were already missing the atmosphere that made Boston one of the standout host cities of the tournament. One supporter simply wrote: "We never say goodbye, it’s simply 'catch ye later'," while another added: "Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened and that you were a part of it."
Others were already making plans to return after making such good memories in the Massachusetts city, with one user penning: "Best summer of my life! Love you Boston. I am coming back with my family next summer." Another suggested the impact of the Tartan Army could continue, believing many Scots would now make Boston part of future trips to the United States. They wrote: "You maybe never have the same volume as numbers in that week. But I’m sure you’ll now have most Scots add Boston onto their USA itineraries… I know I have, also when you watch all the World Cup Boston seemed to the most engaging city with all fans."
