Further details have been announced about the funeral of Welsh music icon Bonnie Tyler, as her family confirmed fans across the world will be able to watch the service through an online broadcast. The Total Eclipse of the Heart singer, who was born Gaynor Hopkins, died in hospital in Portugal on July 8 at the age of 75.
Cortege route and public viewing
Tyler is resting at William Pressdee Funeralcare on Stanley Street in Mumbles before she returns to her home, Fernhill, on Saturday, August 15, at 3.30pm. Those who wish to pay their respects are invited to line Newton Road, Mumbles from 3.15pm. "Please, if required, use the whole of Newton Road (from the junction of Stanley Street) to the White Rose, and again if required along Mumbles Road too," the notice says.
Celebration of life service
The celebration of life service is on Monday, August 17 at St Mary's Church (Swansea Minster), which is described as a "public service". The service is due to start at noon, and the doors of the church will be open from 11am. Within the church, seating will be prioritised for the family and invited guests, but it is anticipated that there will be a limited number of seats available for the general public. For those unable to get into the church, the service will be broadcast outside on television screens. It will also be shown online at www.bonnietyler.com for fans across the world.
Return to Skewen and private arrangements
Tyler will then return to her hometown of Skewen, at around 1.20pm, en route to a family service. The website states: "The cortege is anticipated to leave Swansea Minster at 1.00pm and arrive in Skewen from 1.20pm. These are approximate timings. The cortege will travel along Pen-Y-Heol, Burrows Road, Hen Heol and then on New Road in a westerly direction towards junction 44 of the M4. From this point onwards the arrangements remain strictly private."
Donations and tributes
Her family has said anyone who wishes to make donations in her memory to do so to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales or Cerebral Palsy Cymru, charities of which Tyler was patron. Tyler had been unwell after she was placed in an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery in May. Following her death, tributes poured in from across the globe from Tyler's fans, friends and family.
