Justin Baldoni has spoken publicly for the first time about his legal dispute with Blake Lively, describing the experience as one of 'injustice and pain'. In a five-minute Instagram video recorded with his wife Emily, the It Ends With Us director addressed the year-long legal battle with his former co-star.
Baldoni said the couple had not spoken publicly for nearly two years because it 'didn’t feel like the right time'. He added that the ordeal had taught them the importance of friends, family and faith, stating: 'Gratitude has saved us.'
The legal fight, which began in late 2024, ended on 4 May when both parties agreed to settle Lively’s lawsuit for breach of contract, retaliation and aiding and abetting. The settlement avoided a trial. However, Lively has since filed for more than $8m in legal fees from Baldoni and his studio, with a deadline of 13 July for him to challenge or pay.
Emily Baldoni described the situation as 'traumatic' for their family and hinted that they would share more of their story in future. 'There is so much more to say,' she said. 'That time will come.'
Baldoni thanked supporters who stood by them, saying: 'There were so many of you who, when we didn’t have a voice, were our voice.' The Guardian has contacted Lively’s representative for comment.
