Bill Oddie, the comedian and wildlife expert known as Britain's best-loved birder, has died at 85.
Career highlights
Oddie rose to fame as part of the comedy trio The Goodies alongside Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor. The group performed in the 1970s and 1980s, with shows including a 1981 Christmas special and the episode Robot in 1982.
He also appeared in the ITV revue series Man of the Year to mark Shakespeare's 400th birthday in 1964, and performed in the Who's rock opera Tommy at the Rainbow theatre in London in 1973.
Oddie later took on the role of Ko-Ko in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado at the London Coliseum in 1988.
Wildlife and later life
Beyond comedy, Oddie was a passionate birdwatcher. He was often photographed birding with his wife Laura in 1985 and in London in 1995. He received an OBE at Buckingham Palace in 2003.
In later years, Oddie attended the Hay festival in Powys, Wales, in 2015. The Goodies reunited for a Guardian photoshoot in 2007.
