Big Brother narrator Mike Goldman has revealed that his family home in Brisbane was destroyed by a fire, with the 52-year-old crediting smoke alarms for saving his life, his wife Bianca Zouppas–Goldman, and their one-year-old son Jagger. The blaze occurred two months ago while the family was asleep.
Goldman, known for his voice-over work on the Australian version of Big Brother, said he initially thought the smoke alarm needed new batteries but soon realised the severity of the situation. He described seeing smoke and finding that the lights would not turn on or off. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but the property was insured.
Speaking about the terrifying experience, Goldman said: 'If the alarm hadn't gone off, I wouldn't be here today. I'm alive because of it.' He added that he still wakes up at night as a light sleeper, sometimes thinking he sees or smells smoke, and has to calm himself down.
Goldman has since partnered with Checktember, a national smoke alarm safety campaign in Australia, urging everyone to check their smoke alarms and take them seriously. He met his wife in an acting class in 2016, and they married in 2019. Their son Jagger was born in May last year after the couple underwent IVF treatment.
