Justin Bieber has been charged with drunken driving, resisting arrest, and driving without a valid licence after being caught drag racing in Miami Beach, police said on Thursday.
The 19-year-old singer was arrested at 4.09am ET after officers observed him racing a yellow Lamborghini against a red Ferrari driven by his friend Khalil Sharieff. Police estimated Bieber was driving at up to 60mph in a 30mph zone.
Miami Beach police chief Raymond Martinez said Bieber was 'a little belligerent, using some choice words' when stopped. The arrest report noted an odour of alcohol on his breath, and Bieber admitted to consuming a beer, smoking marijuana, and taking prescription medication.
Bieber's driving licence was found to be expired. Sharieff was also arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. The incident adds to a turbulent year for the pop star, who earlier this month was accused of throwing eggs at a neighbour's house.
