Beverley Callard Firmly Responds to Fan Over Working During Cancer Treatment

Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has delivered a determined response after a fan questioned her decision to continue working following her cancer diagnosis. The 68-year-old actress, who revealed in January that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, has been actively promoting her upcoming appearance on I'm A Celebrity South Africa despite undergoing a major operation in February.

Exhaustion from Work and a Fan's Concern

In a recent video update, Callard shared that she had been left completely wiped out after traveling to London for the launch of I'm A Celebrity. "I thought I'd give you an update. I've not posted for a couple of days because to be honest, I was completely wiped out," she explained. "I was at work last week, as you know, in London, doing the launch for I'm a Celebrity, and it was great, but I was wiped out afterwards."

However, one fan responded by saying, "Surely you shouldn't be working so soon?" Callard replied with characteristic resolve, stating, "I can't not do anything, it's good to keep busy." She emphasized that maintaining her professional commitments helps her manage the emotional and physical challenges of her health battle.

Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Update

Callard received her breast cancer diagnosis just minutes before filming for her latest soap, Fair City, highlighting the sudden and unexpected nature of the news. She underwent a significant operation the following month and has been open about her journey with fans.

In characteristically strident terms, the actress declared, "F*** cancer!" She added, "We go from one extreme to another in my job. I'm feeling more nervous now we're here, but I'm going to be very brave."

Earlier this month, Callard shared positive news about her treatment, revealing that she may not need a second operation. "Today has been a great day. I got to the hospital at 9am," she told fans. "I saw my consultant, who was truly amazing, and she says I do not need to have the second operation."

She described how a large swelling under her arm has begun to soften, indicating it is turning into fluid that will slowly release into her system. "So, the next stage is, in about four weeks, we will find out if she managed to get all the cancer out and we'll also get the results of whether it was in the lymph nodes or not," Callard explained.

If she is cancer-free, she will begin radiotherapy a few weeks later. "If I'm not cancer-free, then we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. But I have a feeling I will be. I don't why I have that feeling but I just have," she added optimistically.

Professional Commitments Amid Health Challenges

Callard is one of the stars featured in the forthcoming series of I'm A Celebrity South Africa, which was pre-recorded last year. She has been actively involved in promoting the show ahead of its broadcast next month, demonstrating her dedication to her career even during this difficult period.

Her response to the fan underscores a broader message about the importance of staying active and engaged while facing serious health issues. By sharing her experience openly, Callard continues to inspire others with her resilience and positive outlook.
