'Better Than Mission Impossible' Action Film Airs Tonight

The action thriller Peppermint, starring Jennifer Garner and John Ortiz, is airing on Film4 at 9pm on Tuesday, June 30. Originally released in cinemas in 2018, the film has been praised by fans as among the finest action movies ever made, with some calling it 'better than Mission Impossible.'

Plot and Premise

In Peppermint, Garner portrays Riley North, a Los Angeles bank worker whose husband and daughter are killed in a drive-by shooting ordered by a powerful drug lord. When the detectives handling the investigation fail to secure convictions, Riley takes justice into her own hands, transforming from a mild-mannered mother into a vigilante. According to TVGuide, the synopsis states: 'Los Angeles bank worker Riley North is devastated when her husband and daughter are killed in cold blood on the order of a powerful drug lord, especially when the criminals escape justice.' The film follows her as she goes off-grid, grieves, and becomes a 'one-woman killing machine' before returning to exact revenge.

Fan Reactions

Action movie fans have hailed Peppermint as 'awesome' and a 'must-see.' One viewer wrote: 'One of the best, if not the best, movies I have seen in a long time.' Another called it 'outstanding,' while several described it as 'underrated' and many begged for a sequel. One fan commented: 'I have never seen something this good other than Taken. I am so hoping they do a sequel or remake.' Another said: 'Edge of your seat action. This was so much better than Mission Impossible and my favourite movie of 2018 thus far.' Yet another added: 'An absolute brilliant yet heartbreaking film.'

Garner's Preparation for the Role

Jennifer Garner spoke about transforming into Riley for the role, telling Entertainment Weekly: 'I'd wanted to do something physical, but the roles that came my way didn't have high enough stakes to make me believe in them.' She added: 'The drama has to be real, and the reason for risk has to be the highest imaginable.' Garner described the experience as 'full-on' and 'the greatest fun,' noting that being a working mom made the physical training a welcome indulgence.
