Benidorm expat flies to UK for Toby Carvery, makes blunder

A British expat who has lived in Benidorm for seven years confessed to making a classic blunder after flying back to the UK for a Toby Carvery. Harry Poulton, who regularly posts travel tips for visitors heading to the Alicante area, is currently in Wales where his gaffe occurred.

"I've flown all the way from Benidorm, Spain to get a Toby Carvery," he began in a TikTok video. "Three hours of travelling just to get the Home of the Roast. I'm back and I'm looking forward to it."

Enthusiasm at the carvery station

Posting footage of himself at the carvery station, Harry couldn't contain his enthusiasm over the "state" of the meat selection as he queued to be served. "That gammon is absolutely 10 [out of] 10," he proclaimed. "My mouth is watering."

Harry continued to reveal his delight at the option of paying an additional £1.99 for a king-size plate, insisting it is "worth every penny". "That looks lovely," he remarked as the chef carved further slices of gammon. With his meat and a Yorkshire pudding secured, Harry moved to the self-service vegetable counter.

Loading up the vegetables

"Traditionally, you've got to get the stuffing," he noted before loading up a substantial helping of roast potatoes cooked in beef dripping. "I'm a proper fan of these," Harry confessed.

Next, he opted for mashed potato, broccoli, peas and carrots, before finishing his plate with a generous serving of cauliflower cheese. "Wow," Harry enthused as he approached the gravy station. "That looks absolutely gorgeous."

There, he "overloaded" his plate with fresh gravy before settling down to enjoy his meal. "In hindsight I probably didn't need to go large," Harry admitted. "But then again, I might come back for round two."

TikTok users call out the mistake

Responding below, one TikTok user was swift to observe: "[You] paid XL for a normal size dinner. I'd have that plate like a mountain! Plus very little meat, where's the rest?"

A second person concurred: "Why pay for an XL to not even half fill your plate?" A third remarked: "You didn't get the pigs in blankets and you are supposed to be piling it high!"

While a fourth TikTok user also agreed, asking: "Where's the rest?! Mine's like a mountain haha. Also needed the beef and where's the bacon wrapped sausages you get with XL?"

Harry subsequently returned to his clip where he conceded: "To be honest, in reality, I'm not really sure why I paid extra. I probably should've just gone for the standard but at the time it felt right. Yeah you're definitely right though I should've got more meat."
