In heartwarming showbiz news, Derren Litten, the mastermind behind ITV's beloved comedy Benidorm, has welcomed a newborn son into his family at the age of 53.
The television writer and actor, who created the iconic sitcom that ran for ten successful series, became a father again this week with his husband, actor Michael Aherne.
The joyous announcement came via Aherne's Instagram, where he shared an adorable photo of their newborn's tiny hand gripping an adult finger, accompanied by the emotional caption: "And then there were four. Welcome to the world our little miracle."
The couple, who married in 2018, are already parents to another son, born via surrogate in 2020. Litten had previously spoken openly about their journey to parenthood, revealing the challenges of becoming fathers later in life.
Fans and fellow celebrities flooded the comments with congratulations. Co-star Sherrie Hewson, who played Joyce Temple-Savage in Benidorm, wrote: "Wonderful news! Massive congratulations to you all," while others described the announcement as "beautiful" and "amazing news."
Litten, who began his career as an actor in shows like The Bill and Heartbeat, found massive success as the creator and writer of Benidorm, which became one of ITV's most popular comedy series between 2007 and 2018.
The York-born writer has often credited the Spanish resort town itself as inspiration for the show, having visited frequently since childhood. His latest family addition marks a new chapter for the celebrated television personality.
