Benedict Cumberbatch in Wimbledon Royal Box for Quarter-Finals

Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter were among the celebrities seated in the Royal Box for the quarter-finals of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships on Tuesday. The 49-year-old actor, known for his role in The Imitation Game, and his 48-year-old theatre director partner, whom he married in 2015, arrived in stylish attire at Centre Court of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Other VIPs in Attendance

The Royal Box also featured actor and model Arden Cho, 40, who played Rumi in the Netflix series KPop Demon Hunters. She attended alongside her surgeon husband Christopher Lee, following their wedding last month. Booker Prize-winning author Bernardine Evaristo, 67, author of Girl, Woman, Other, and theatre director Sir Trevor Nunn, 86, were also present.

Matches and Heat Concerns

The celebrities watched Jessica Pegula face Coco Gauff on Centre Court. Novak Djokovic headlined the day, playing third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, while an unfinished match between Alexander Zverev and Jiri Lehecka was set to resume midway through the third set. Wimbledon organisers urged guests to stay hydrated and protect themselves from the sun, as the day was expected to be the hottest of the championships so far. Guests fanned themselves and watched matches under parasols due to a lack of shade in the stands.

Wimbledon's Heat Preparedness

All England Club chief executive Sally Bolton assured that Wimbledon was prepared for the temperature spike, with measures to protect guests, staff, and players. She told reporters: “We’ve had a bit of practise, particularly last year, but over the week before the championships (as well), and we’ve got our usual measures in place. There’s the heat rule present for the players, although I think, looking at the temperatures, we don’t anticipate getting close to that over these next few days.” Wimbledon’s heat rule allows a 10-minute break when the wet bulb globe temperature reaches 30.1°C or higher.
