David Beckham has said parents must let their children 'make mistakes', a day after his son Brooklyn aired grievances against his family in an Instagram post that drew global media attention.
Brooklyn, 26, accused his parents, the former England footballer and his wife Victoria, of controlling narratives in the press and attempting to 'ruin' his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham. In his statement, he said he had no interest in reconciling, alleging his mother cancelled making Nicola's wedding dress at the last minute, and that his parents pressured him to sign away rights to his name before his wedding.
Speaking on CNBC's Squawk Box, David Beckham avoided addressing the dispute directly but talked about his children and social media. 'They make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes. That's how they learn,' he said. 'You have to sometimes let them make those mistakes as well.'
Brooklyn also claimed his mother 'hijacked' his first dance and danced 'inappropriately' on him, and that his wife was not invited to his father's 50th birthday party. He said his family values 'public promotion and endorsements above all else' and that stepping away from them had brought him peace.
