David Beckham, the former England football captain, was spotted in the Royal Box at Wimbledon on Monday, where he made a personal request to celebrity chef Dame Mary Berry for a selfie. The 51-year-old was attending Jannik Sinner's first-round match against Miomir Kecmanovic.
Beckham's Selfie Request
Dressed in a sleek grey suit, Beckham initially stood up to take a picture with his mother, Sandra. He then requested a group photo with Berry and Deborah Jevans, the chair of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club. The moment was captured by photographers and quickly circulated on social media.
Beckham, a regular on the first day of Wimbledon, sat in the front row of the Royal Box. Other celebrities present included Alexander Armstrong, host of the BBC show Pointless, and Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins.
Royal Box Invitations and Rules
Being a high-profile figure does not guarantee a seat in the Royal Box. Guests must be invited by former champion and chair Deborah Jevans, who considers suggestions from the AELTC's management committee, the Lawn Tennis Association, and other tennis bodies. Invitees must adhere to a strict dress code; in 2015, Lewis Hamilton was turned away for violating the code.
Sinner's Match and Tournament Outlook
Centre Court welcomed Sinner with a raucous reception. The Italian is the firm favorite this year after Carlos Alcaraz withdrew due to a wrist injury. However, Sinner suffered a shock second-round loss at the French Open due to fitness issues. Last week, he stated that his team had reached a 'very good' conclusion to address those concerns ahead of Wimbledon.
