David Beckham's former Manchester United teammate John O'Kane has sided with Brooklyn Beckham in the ongoing family feud, saying that 'Brand Beckham' should not come before his son. O'Kane's comments follow a scathing Instagram statement from Brooklyn, in which he accused his parents of controlling the narrative and attempting to ruin his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz.
Brooklyn, 26, claimed that his family values public promotion and endorsements above all else, and that he had been asked to sign away rights to his name. He also accused Victoria Beckham of 'hijacking' the first dance at his wedding and dancing 'inappropriately' on him.
O'Kane, who lived with Beckham for a few years, tweeted: 'I lived with Beckham for few years.. Let's just say he likes to be in TOTAL CONTROL and was OBSESSIVE on PERFECTION. If it took Brooklyn to say this and burn down the so-called perfect family. Brand Beckham should not come before your kids no matter what has happened!!'
In his Instagram statement, Brooklyn wrote: 'My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family 'love' is decided by how much you post on social media... We've gone out of our way for years to show up and support... But the one time my wife asked for my mum's support to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, my mum refused.'
Brooklyn also denied the narrative that his wife controls him, stating: 'I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.' He added that he and his wife want peace, privacy and happiness for their future family.
