David Beckham Defends Victoria's Flat World Cup Reaction That Went Viral
Beckham Defends Victoria's Flat World Cup Reaction

David Beckham rushed to defend his wife Victoria after her decidedly flat reaction to England’s latest World Cup triumph went viral. The former Spice Girl, her husband and their kids Romeo, Cruz and Harper watched England take on Norway in Miami on Saturday night - although their estranged son Brooklyn failed to join them.

Jude Bellingham’s extra-time winner brought England up to a 2-1 win, prompting David and his children to jump out of their seats and punch the air with joy. However, Victoria, 52, stayed true to her personal brand of nonchalance and remained expressionless and in her seat, before reaching for her phone to take a photo.

Social Media Meltdown

Her subdued reaction sent the internet into meltdown, with comedian Jenny Johnson drawing in thousands of likes by teasing the fashion designer over her “infectious enthusiasm” on Instagram. “There’s nothing like cheering your heart out for England from home, then they cut to Victoria and we see that classic Posh Spice smile! It’s so infectious!” Jenny wrote.

She went on: “I used to think I got animated while watching sports, but Victoria blows my enthusiasm out of the water! “Each time I see her I shout, ‘SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!!!!’ because her energy is electric!!!”

David, 51, commented with a string of laughing face emojis and added: “She was celebrating inside I promise, her reactions were slightly slower than mine.”

Fans React

Fans flooded the comments with their amusement over Victoria’s “iconic” reaction. “Give us a trigger warning before you show someone with so much emotion!” one joked. “She is an icon, she can sit there with no expression forever and she will forever be iconic,” another added.

“I actually respect this move. This woman truly could not be bothered to spend a single ounce of her energy on the biggest sporting event in the world and the game that made her husband like a bajillionaire. Iconic,” a third posted.

Victoria's Explanation

Victoria has previously claimed she always looks “moody” because her husband stands on her good side at events and in public, meaning she can’t smile. “Now I didn’t realise that when I smile – which I do! – I smile from the left, because if I smile from the right, I look unwell,” she said in David’s Netflix documentary. “So I'm smiling on the inside but no one ever sees it. So, that’s why I look so moody.”

After the England vs Norway game, David was seen singing Wonderwall alongside thousands of other fans in the Hard Rock Stadium. The former England captain, who serves as the co-owner and president of Inter Miami CF, later posted pics with his family at the stadium.

Brooklyn's Absence and Controversy

His eldest son Brooklyn was notably absent, instead watching the game from New York with his wife Nicola Peltz. The 27-year-old has been locked in a feud with his parents and is believed to no longer speak to his siblings Cruz, 21, Romeo, 23, and Harper, 15.

Last month, Brooklyn came under fire after the full version of his controversial World Cup advert appeared to take another swipe at his family, with fans branding the campaign “distasteful”. The aspiring chef unveiled the complete DoorDash commercial following England's World Cup victory against Croatia, days after the teaser sparked accusations he was "cashing in" on his estrangement from parents.

In the advert, he smirks at the camera, saying: “You're probably wondering why I'm watching the FIFA World Cup 2026 from home... It's a long story.” He goes on to throw down some match tickets onto the coffee table, as a message says: “It’s complicated. More soon.”

The ads have sparked controversy, and his famous parents have reportedly been left “inconsolable” by the advert. The hot sauce entrepreneur has been engaged in a long-running feud with his parents ever since his explosive claim in January that they have been “trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped”. He also alleged his wife, Nicola, had been “disrespected” by his family.

He has not made a public appearance with his parents nor acknowledged them on social media since his statement, in which he also claimed his parents control narratives in the press about their family and put “Brand Beckham” first.
