Bebe Rexha has fired back at body-shaming trolls who targeted her curves during her appearance at the American Music Awards on Monday night. The 36-year-old singer stunned in a black dress on the red carpet, but some critics took to social media with cruel remarks.
One user snarked, 'You know she's not on Ozempic,' while another added, 'She needs to lay off the Twinkies.' A third commented, 'Everyone discovers Ozempic. She discovers food.'
The account @HustleBitch_ shared an older photo of Rexha alongside a snap from Monday's awards show, captioning it: 'Singer Bebe Rexha is going viral after fans noticed how different she looked at the American Music Awards. Be honest… what’s your first thought?'
Rexha responded by brushing off the trolls with a clever put-down. She ignored the critical comments and instead promoted her music, writing, 'My thought is… My new album dirty blonde is out June 12th. Available for pre order now.'
Fans cheered the witty response, with many pointing out that Rexha suffers from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition she revealed in 2023. PCOS is a chronic metabolic condition characterized in part by an increased risk of weight gain, according to the World Health Organization.
Rexha has previously opened up about her fluctuating weight amid her health diagnosis. In a 2023 Instagram post, she lifted her sweatshirt to show her stomach, writing, 'Yes, I'm in my fat era and what?'
Around the same time, she appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where she discussed being scrutinized. 'Listen, we're in the public eye, so that's bound to happen,' she told host Jennifer Hudson. 'I was a lot thinner and I did gain some weight - that comes with the territory. I'm not mad about it because it is true, but when you see things like that, it does mess with you.'
She added, 'You don't know what somebody's going through, what they're going through in their life, so it kind of is tough. But I feel like we're in 2023 ... we should not be talking about people's weight.'
'Listen ... I like to eat, okay? I like to eat,' Bebe said, as Hudson chimed in, 'Ain't nothing wrong with that!'
Rexha also admitted she couldn't resist checking out comments when she saw 'Bebe Rexha weight gain' trending on TikTok. 'Seeing that search bar is so upsetting. I'm not mad cause it's true. I did gain weight. But it just sucks. Thank you to all the people who love me no matter what,' she tweeted.
'I've always struggled with my weight. A bi*** likes to eat. I'm working on myself everyday. Just discouraged a bit right now,' she confessed to followers.
