BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia has clapped back at a viewer who sent her a handwritten letter criticising her "short dresses", sharing a defiant snap online to much fan support.
The 45-year-old Yorkshire-based broadcaster spoke candidly about the online abuse she has faced regarding her television wardrobe after allegedly receiving the handwritten note. The mother-of-two posted a photograph of herself on the studio sofa wearing a red-and-blue dress complemented by nude heels. Her accompanying caption read: "I recently received a handwritten letter telling me that my dresses were far too short for my age, and why was I dressing like a 17-year-old? This outfit is for Margaret, I hope she approves".
Her supporters have flocked to defend the newsreader in the comments section. One follower wrote: "Love that dress Amy ignore ! Where is it from? !". Another commented: "You always look beautiful Amy. Oh Margaret, Margaret, Margaret you clearly need a hobby to occupy your time rather than insult the lovely Amy".
A third remarked: "She sounds a very rude person, Amy... Take no notice and carry on being who you are". A fourth posted: "I was thinking how great you looked last night. Keep up the good work Amy. Some tough stories handled very sensitively." Another wrote: "Amy, You always look so stylish. Absolutely Stunning. Keep doing what you're doing." "You always dress lovely and look wonderful, I wish I had the confidence and your figure," another observed.
Amy has served as a principal correspondent on the programme since 2020. Before that, she gained experience working across CITV, The Disney Channel and CBBC. Her statement follows shortly after fellow BBC presenter Amanda Harper, 52, fought back against online critics who labelled her "cheap and trashy" for donning high heels and leather trousers during a live broadcast.
