BBC Look East presenter Susie Fowler-Watt to leave after 35 years

BBC Look East presenter Susie Fowler-Watt has announced she is leaving the BBC after 35 years to pursue a new career as a psychotherapist. Her last day on air will be Friday, December 18.

Career Change Announced

In a video message, Fowler-Watt said she has been presenting the programme for nearly 30 years and has been at the BBC for 35. She explained that she trained as a psychotherapist when she was 50, six years ago, and is now keen to invest in that new chapter of her life.

Reflecting on her career, she said: "What a joy this job has been, what a privilege it has been. I have loved it. I have worked with such wonderful people and met so many wonderful people in my career." She thanked viewers and noted she will be on air for another eight weeks before saying a proper goodbye just before Christmas.

Long BBC Career

Fowler-Watt began her BBC career in 1991 at BBC Radio Surrey before moving through reporting, producing, and presenting roles in local radio. She then joined the BBC political unit at Westminster, working on national TV programmes.

Before moving into presenting, she was a political correspondent for BBC East, at a time when the prime minister and many cabinet members were MPs in the region. She interviewed eight prime ministers during her career and covered major stories including the Soham murders, the trial of serial killer Steve Wright, the Covid pandemic, and the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
