Naga Munchetty has announced her departure from BBC Breakfast after 17 years on the programme. The presenter is moving to BBC Radio 5 Live to host its breakfast show, taking over from Rachel Burden who is stepping down after 15 years.
Sally Nugent breaks silence
Co-presenter Sally Nugent addressed the exit on Instagram, posting: “Congratulations @tvnaga,” after the announcement was made live on air.
A source told The Sun that bosses were “thrilled with Sally Nugent’s recent interview with Nigel Farage and called down to say they wanted Sally covering more chats of that ilk. That used to be Naga’s domain.” The source added: “It was obviously compared to the Kemi [Badenoch] car crash from Naga.”
Future of the show
“Everyone sees Sally as the future of the show and more generally the vibe is all about positivity for a new chapter,” the source claimed.
Naga’s tenure was reportedly marred by allegations of bullying, alongside co-presenter Charlie Stayt and breakfast boss Richard Frediani. The Sun also reported she attempted to secure jobs at Sky and LBC due to “tension” with Frediani, but was unsuccessful. No formal action is thought to have been taken.

Naga said of her move: “It is exciting news, it is exciting news. A change is… they say a change is as good as a rest, don't they? It’s just time for a new challenge.”
The BBC has stated that a replacement for Naga on Breakfast will be announced “in due course”. Express.co.uk has contacted the BBC for comment.
