Sally Nugent is set to replace Naga Munchetty on BBC Breakfast after impressing bosses with her tense interview with Reform leader Nigel Farage. Naga, 51, announced she is leaving the flagship morning show after 17 years to host BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast.
Naga's Departure and New Role
Naga confirmed her departure in a statement, saying she is "thrilled to be joining 5 Live Breakfast in January." She described the opportunity as "too good to pass up." Her move comes after a turbulent year that included a formal investigation into accusations of bullying, which The Mirror understands ceased before her move.
A source told The Mirror: "The new job for Naga seems the best result for everyone. It was not a happy ship on Breakfast." Another source added: "After all the turmoil, it’s clear a reset is needed."
Rise of Sally Nugent
Following Naga's exit, talk turned to her replacement. It is claimed that Sally Nugent will become the "future of the show." A source told The Sun: "Bosses were thrilled with Sally Nugent’s recent interview with Nigel Farage and called down to say they wanted Sally covering more chats of that ilk. That used to be Naga’s domain."
Sally clashed with Farage on BBC Breakfast, questioning him over a £5 million donation and his call for a general election. Farage snapped back, calling the spending details "literally none of your business" and comparing her salary to his own.
Naga's BBC Career
Naga began her BBC career in 2008 on business programme Working Lunch before moving to BBC Breakfast. She also presents a mid-morning show on BBC Radio 5 Live. Her new co-host for the breakfast show has yet to be announced. The programme will broadcast live from Salford three days a week and from London two days a week.
