Mats Grotenbreg, a 28-year-old Dutch amateur footballer and reality TV personality known for appearing on The Bachelorette, died on Thursday 25 June following a collision with a boat while swimming in the Netherlands. Authorities confirmed a swimmer died in the incident and a suspect has been taken into custody.

However, Mats Grotenbreg's football coach at Jonge Kracht confirmed the news to De Gelderlander newspaper, stating: "This is incomprehensible, Mats was a great guy, always cheerful and enjoying life."
Footballer Giovanni Büttner also shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, writing: "No words for it. Played together for six years and received the phone call with the terrible news."
