Mats Grotenbreg, a 28-year-old Dutch amateur footballer and reality TV personality known for appearing on The Bachelorette, died on Thursday 25 June following a collision with a boat while swimming in the Netherlands. Authorities confirmed a swimmer died in the incident and a suspect has been taken into custody.
Details of the Fatal Accident
The accident occurred in the Netherlands, though police have not released specific details about the location or circumstances, nor have they officially identified the victim. However, Mats Grotenbreg's football coach at Jonge Kracht confirmed the news to De Gelderlander newspaper, stating: "This is incomprehensible, Mats was a great guy, always cheerful and enjoying life."
Footballer Giovanni Büttner also shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, writing: "No words for it. Played together for six years and received the phone call with the terrible news."
Football Career and Cup Upset
Grotenbreg gained international recognition two and a half years ago when he scored the winning goal against Ajax in the KNVB Cup while playing for USV Hercules. His 92nd-minute goal secured a 3-2 victory, creating the biggest cup upset in Dutch football history.

He later rose to fame on reality television, appearing on the third season of The Bachelorette, where he competed for the affections of Diva Brons, Beate van der Weide, and Kashin Aziz in Marrakech. He also participated in the programme Fboy Island, which features a rotating cast of single women and male participants divided into "Nice Guys" and "FBoys."
