Joe Amabile Reveals Brain Tumour Diagnosis
Joe Amabile, known for his appearances on The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise, has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with a brain tumour. The 40-year-old reality star announced the news in an Instagram video, stating that doctors found a 'blueberry-sized' lesion during a preventative health scan.
Details of the Diagnosis
In his video, Amabile explained that the scan revealed a lesion in his brain, which led to an MRI. The MRI confirmed a blueberry-sized glioma, a type of brain tumour. He said, 'So a little medical update. I didn’t share my Prenuvo results because they ended up finding a lesion in my brain. So then I had to go get a brain MRI, and there was a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumour.'
Amabile added that he never expected to receive such a diagnosis and hopes the surgery will remove the entire tumour. 'I think it’s one of those things where you’re like, “Oh, something like this never happened to me,” and here I am,' he said. 'They say it’s really early stages. I hope they are able to get it all, and I’m fine. But I will keep you updated.'
Surgery and Support
The star is scheduled to undergo a craniotomy in two weeks to remove the tumour. In a caption accompanying his video, he wrote, 'This past month has been a lot of ups and downs to say the least. After multiple scans and MRIs I have what looks to be an early stage brain tumor. In two weeks I’ll be undergoing a craniotomy to have it removed — yeah brain surgery.'
Amabile expressed gratitude for the support from family and friends, including his wife, Serena Pitt, whom he married after meeting on Bachelor in Paradise. Pitt commented on his post, 'You're so strong and we're going to get through this together. I love you.'
What is a Glioma?
A glioma is a brain tumour that originates in the glial cells, which surround and protect nerve cells. In the UK, approximately 2,200 cases are diagnosed annually, while in the US, the figure is around 100,000. Treatment typically involves surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible, followed by radiotherapy or chemotherapy if necessary.

Amabile first gained fame on season 14 of The Bachelorette in 2018 and later appeared on Bachelor in Paradise in 2018 and 2021. He also competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2018, finishing in fifth place. Fans affectionately call him 'Grocery Store Joe'.
