A British Airways employee who assisted Queen Camilla with her check-in at a US airport was left astonished by her appearance, according to a royal correspondent. The incident occurred after the Queen's return from a state visit to the United States with King Charles III earlier this month.
Royal Visit to the US
King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the US ahead of the country's 250th birthday, meeting with President Donald Trump. The trip aimed to ease tensions in the so-called 'special relationship' between the UK and USA. While the King continued to Bermuda for a solo visit to a British overseas territory, the Queen flew back to the UK commercially.
Encounter at Washington Airport
Rebecca English, royal correspondent for the Daily Mail, shared the story on the Palace Confidential vodcast. She explained that while flying back from Washington herself, she spoke to a British Airways staff member at the check-in desk. The employee recognized her as covering the royal trip and mentioned seeing Queen Camilla the previous day.
English recounted: "She went, 'Ah! We saw Queen Camilla as she walked in yesterday'. We couldn't quite believe it, and she's got really good skin." The staff member, who may have personally checked in the Queen, was eager to discuss Camilla's appearance, asking: "Has she had anything done? What's her health regime? What's her skincare regime like?"
Tourism Boost from Royal Visit
The royal visit to the US has been seen as a potential boost for British tourism. Patricia Yates, head of Visit Britain, suggested to the Express that the UK's royal legacy and heritage could attract more American tourists. She said: "Our rich history, culture and heritage hold huge appeal for American travellers. For an American we are a pretty small country and Britain's renowned heritage, its royal legacy, pomp and pageantry are proven tourism draws."
The Queen's solo commercial flight and the positive impression she left on airport staff highlight the enduring fascination with the British royal family.
