Singer Avery Wilson has broken his silence following an incident at the NBA Finals where President Donald Trump was met with loud boos from the crowd. The President attended the game between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden in New York City, but his appearance was met with a chorus of disapproval.

Trump's Arrival at the Game

Trump was seen standing in a private box during the third game of the Finals. As the National Anthem was performed by Broadway star Avery Wilson, the President saluted and smirked, drawing further jeers from the audience.

Avery Wilson's Response

In an Instagram video, Wilson expressed gratitude for the support he received. "Thank you so much for all the love that you are showing me through texts and posts. I really really appreciate it," he said. He described singing the National Anthem as an unforgettable moment, adding, "I know who was in the audience, so I didn't think that people were booing me at all. I was also prompted to know that they probably would do so."

Addressing critics who questioned his decision to perform, Wilson fired back: "For the people that say the fact that I knew this thing was coming to the game and I still ended up singing, are you kidding me? I'm loyal to the soil. Knicks all day! So when they call me to be there, I'm gonna be there." He emphasized his resilience, stating, "I appreciate all the love and it's just a prime example how I'm resilient through all the bullshit. Regardless. I'm never gonna stop."

Security Concerns and Fan Reactions

Trump's attendance led to heightened security measures. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch explained that watch parties around the Garden were canceled due to security risks. "The NYPD, in coordination with the Secret Service, made the decision for Game 3, where we have a presidential visit, that we could not support watch parties right outside of the Garden," she said.

Extra security checks resulted in the stadium being half empty an hour before the game. One fan expressed frustration: "I wish he wasn't here. He's not a real fan, and he's just making things awful. We've waited a lifetime for this, and he's made it about himself, like everything else."
