Augustinus Bader, the beauty brand favored by Victoria Beckham, Hailey Bieber, and Margot Robbie, has expanded its lineup with the solar shield sunscreen range, combining luxury skincare with sun protection. The range includes a body SPF and a facial SPF50, both formulated with the brand's patented TFC8 complex, which promises anti-ageing benefits and improved skin elasticity over time.
Testing the SPFs in Tuscany
Daisy Lester, Shopping Editor, tested both products during a holiday in Tuscany and at home. She applied the solar shield body SPF (175ml, £120) and the facial SPF50 (30ml, £110) daily, reapplying every two hours as recommended. The body SPF impressed with its creamy, lightweight texture that left skin radiant and hydrated, with no white cast or greasy residue. It also helped even out rosacea on her arms. Despite the high price, the tube depleted quickly over four days of shared use, raising questions about value for longer holidays.
Facial SPF Performance
The facial SPF50 delivered on all fronts: it applied like a lightweight day cream, sat well under makeup, and left a non-greasy, radiant finish. It contains antioxidant-rich ingredients and vitamins E, A, omega-3, and omega-6 for blue light protection. However, the 30ml tube is smaller than competitors' typical 50ml offerings, and the £110 cost is steep. Lester noted it has become her new favorite facial SPF, but she will mourn its depletion.
Verdict: Luxury or Essential?
While both SPFs provide high-level protection and skincare benefits, the body SPF is an indulgent purchase rather than an essential, given its price and rapid usage. The facial SPF, however, is worth investing in for those who value premium skincare in their daily routine. Clinic lead at Face the Future, Kimbery Medd, advises that sunscreen should be applied 15-30 minutes before sun exposure and reapplied every two hours, or more frequently after swimming or sweating.
