Ashley Cain has broken his silence for the first time since his BBC show was axed, apologising for allegedly using degrading language about women in old social media posts. The 35-year-old reality star took to Instagram on Monday (June 22) to address the controversy after resurfaced posts from 2011 to 2013 were found to contain sexist remarks, prompting the BBC to drop his documentary series, Into the Danger Zone.
Show Shelved and Management Dropped
The second season of Into the Danger Zone has been shelved, with the BBC stating there are no plans to broadcast it. Additionally, Cain lost his management, Off Limits, leaving him to address the fallout alone. A source told the Daily Mail that the agency, which also represents Jesy Nelson and Harry Redknapp, dropped him due to the controversy. "They have a roster of talent who are household names, they don't want to be associated with him after the vile posts came to light," the insider said. "Ashley is now pretty much blacklisted in the industry, and it's doubtful he will ever be on television again."
Cain's Apology and Reflection
In his Instagram statement, Cain said: "To my community, you may have seen a recent article concerning language I used many years ago that I am not proud of. I don't deny it. I don't excuse it. And I certainly don't condone it." He attributed his past behaviour to losing his career in football, which left him feeling "lost, frustrated and unsure" about his life direction. "The reality is that growth doesn't happen overnight. It happens through experience. Through mistakes. Through hardship. Through being forced to look in the mirror and ask yourself whether you're willing to become better," he wrote.
Impact of Daughter's Death
Cain referenced the tragic loss of his eight-month-old daughter, Azaylia, in 2021, saying it "changed him forever." He added: "I cannot change what I said over a decade ago. What I can do is take responsibility for it. What I can do is continue striving every day to be a good father, a good human and a positive force in the lives of others."
