Souter Lighthouse in South Tyneside will close to the public for two days next week as the BBC One show Antiques Roadshow films at the historic site. The National Trust property will be inaccessible on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, with access granted only to ticket holders on the Saturday.
Filming Schedule and Closure Details
The popular Sunday night programme will record at the lighthouse on Saturday, July 4. The National Trust confirmed: "The Lighthouse and Café will be closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Access will be available only to Antiques Roadshow ticket holders on Saturday. Sorry for any inconvenience."
Historic Lighthouse
Souter Lighthouse, with its distinctive red and white stripes, opened in 1871 and was the first in the UK designed and built to be powered by electricity. It stands atop cliffs and rock stacks overlooking Marsden Bay. A nature reserve on reclaimed colliery land south of the lighthouse is known as a haven for wildlife.
Previous North East Visits
Antiques Roadshow has filmed in the North East several times before. In a past episode, a guest was stunned when expert Adam Schoon valued his 19th-century "rust bucket" bicycle, found in a North Shields shop, at £2,000.
