BBC's Countryfile star Anita Rani has revealed the surprising item she considers absolutely essential for her travels, following her emotional journey on Celebrity Race Across The World with her mother, Bal.
The television presenter, who captured the nation's hearts during the adventurous BBC series, confessed that her number one travel necessity isn't what most people would expect. "I never travel without my hot water bottle," Rani exclusively shared. "It's my comfort blanket - it helps me sleep anywhere in the world."
An Emotional Journey Across Continents
Rani's participation in the show alongside her 68-year-old mother created some of television's most touching moments this year. The mother-daughter duo navigated challenging routes across North America, from the icy landscapes of Canada's Yukon territory to the bustling streets of Mexico City.
"Travelling with my mum was completely transformative," Rani explained. "We experienced everything together - the exhaustion, the hunger, the frustration, but also those incredible moments of pure joy and connection."
Strengthening Family Bonds Through Adventure
The journey proved particularly poignant as it allowed Rani to see her mother in an entirely new light. "Watching my mum embrace every challenge with such courage was incredible," she said. "She's this tiny woman facing massive physical and mental challenges, and she just got on with it."
Rani believes the experience has permanently strengthened their relationship. "We've always been close, but this took it to another level. There's a new understanding between us that will last forever."

Despite the glamorous premise, Rani was quick to highlight the show's authentic challenges. "People see the beautiful locations, but they don't always appreciate how tough it really is," she noted. "The constant budgeting, the lack of sleep, the uncertainty - it tests you in ways you can't imagine."
The presenter also praised the show's format for creating genuine television moments. "There's no hiding on Race Across The World. The cameras capture everything - the good, the bad, and the ugly. It's completely real."
A New Perspective On Travel
Since completing the series, Rani says her approach to travel has fundamentally changed. "I've learned that the journey really is more important than the destination," she reflected. "It's about the people you meet and what you learn about yourself along the way."
The broadcaster also expressed hope that her participation would inspire other British Asian women to embrace adventure. "If seeing me and my mum doing this encourages even one woman to step outside her comfort zone, that would mean everything."
