Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is set to give evidence in court next week as the trial of a man accused of threatening him begins. The former prince is expected to give evidence via video link next Wednesday.
The trial comes after Alex Jenkinson was charged with two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to harass someone or cause alarm or distress. One of these is believed to relate to Andrew. Jenkinson appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court via video link the following day after being charged and pleaded not guilty.
Trial date set for July 29
A trial date was then set for July 29, with Andrew receiving permission to attend the trial to give evidence by video link only. The former prince, 66, will therefore appear on a video link in court next week to speak about the incident.
It is believed the alleged incident occurred in May, when Andrew was walking his dogs near his new Marsh Farm home on the Sandringham Estate. The former duke was with one of his private security guards at the time, according to reports.
Background of the case
The alleged incident came months after Andrew had been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was taken into police custody for an interview and released the same day under investigation. The investigation is still ongoing.
Since then, Andrew has kept a very low profile, often seen only around his home in Norfolk, either in his car or walking his dogs. He has kept this low profile since late last year, when the Epstein file scandals saw him lose his royal titles and Royal Lodge mansion in Windsor. He has always denied wrongdoing and accusations against him.
