A groundbreaking electronic dance music (EDM) festival is poised to make its debut at an ancient temple nestled in the picturesque Sicilian countryside, blending modern beats with historic grandeur.
Venue and Headliners
Aura Festival has selected the ancient Segesta Archaeological Park, located in the Trapani region of Sicily, as the venue for its inaugural springtime event. This remarkable site, renowned for its preserved Greek temple and theatre dating back to around the fifth century BC, offers sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding hills. The festival will showcase headlining acts such as Francesco Del Garda, Josh Baker, and Traumer, promising an electrifying musical experience.
Historical Significance
Segesta Archaeological Park is celebrated as one of the most extraordinary ancient sites in Sicily, with legends suggesting it was founded by survivors of the mythological Trojan War. Archaeologists continue to explore its true origins, adding to the mystique of the Doric temple, a standout feature built centuries ago. Typically open to visitors and occasionally used for theatrical performances, this spring will see the ancient world harmoniously intersect with contemporary dance music.
Event Details and Tickets
The festival is scheduled to run over one weekend, from 1 to 2 May, with daily hours from 1pm to 1am. Tickets are affordably priced, starting from €18.50 (approximately £16) for a single day or €34 (around £29) for the full weekend. Accessibility is convenient, with the site reachable by car and public buses, and the closest airports being Palermo and Trapani.
Accommodation Options
Organisers have curated four distinct accommodation packages to enhance the festival experience. These include a resort near the archaeological park, a three-star hotel, a four-star resort close to Castellammare beach, and apartments in the port of Castellammare del Golfo. When booked for three nights, these packages include a festival ticket, with combined prices beginning at €189 (about £163) per person.
Philosophy and Vision
A spokesperson for Unlocked Events, the festival promoter, shared with DJ Mag that Aura was conceived to forge new connections between people, music, art, and places through an immersive experience focused on perception. In a fast-paced world, Aura aims to slow down, eschewing trends in favour of seeking meaning, depth, and balance. The festival envisions electronic music dialogues with Segesta's rich history, creating a shared space where personal stories intertwine.
The Independent has reached out to Aura Festival for additional comments, highlighting the growing interest in this unique cultural fusion. This event follows a trend of innovative music gatherings in historic Italian settings, such as a 1970s disco taking over a former convent this summer.
