Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has provided an emotional health update following her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. The 35-year-old dancer, who will return to the BBC show later this year, revealed she is doing 'really, really well' after undergoing a mastectomy in November.
In an interview with ITV News, Dowden spoke about her recovery and the significance of returning to dance. 'After having your dancing taken away from you, you just enjoy every second and every beat on that dance floor,' she said. The dancer admitted that performing again has helped rebuild her confidence after she nearly quit dancing altogether.
Dowden was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 after finding a lump just before her honeymoon. She underwent chemotherapy and two mastectomies, with the latest procedure as a preventative measure. In February 2024, she confirmed she is in remission with 'no evidence of disease'.
Her dance partner Carlos Gu expressed pride in her comeback, saying, 'The dancer Amy is back, finally back, and she's such a talent.' The duo will embark on the second leg of their tour, Reborn, before returning to Strictly.
