Kalani Smith, known as Kalani Ghost Hunter, took his American friend Tanner Wiseman for his first ever pub experience in the UK. Before the meal, Tanner had branded British food as 'bland' in a previous video.
Challenging the 'Bland' Myth
At the Pig and Butcher in London, Kalani explained that the pub has a team sourcing fresh fruit and veg daily and a butcher shop that prepares locally sourced beef. He said, 'They actually have a team of people that go out every morning to find the fruit and veg and also have a butcher shop that chops up their locally sourced beef in house. So let's go and try it out.'
First up was a scotch egg. After tasting it, Tanner said, 'Okay, that's really good,' and praised the crunch of the meat and seasoning. Kalani asked, 'Bland food?' and Tanner replied, 'I'm wrong.'
A Gastro Pub Feast
The meal included lamb pie, triple cooked beef fat chips, garlic potatoes, and a 45-day aged sirloin with peppercorn sauce. Kalani noted the fresh, vibrant colours. Tanner said his friend had 'nailed it' and that everything 'looks so good.' After trying the lamb pie, he was nearly speechless, managing only 'Yeah.' Kalani described it as 'incredibly tender' with 'nice pastry.'
When the dry-aged steak arrived, Tanner exclaimed, 'Hmmm yum. Yup they did that right.' Kalani was speechless. The pair then planned to order sticky toffee pudding, but the video ended with Tanner's final verdict. Kalani reminded him he had expected bland food, and Tanner admitted, 'Wasn't what I was expecting, what I heard however was wrong. That was all super good.'
Fish and Chips Praise
Earlier this year, Kalani visited Toll Bar Fish and Chips in Hope Valley, Derbyshire, which has a 4.7-star Tripadvisor rating. He called it his 'death row meal.'
