Alice Evans has spoken of her shock and heartbreak as she prepares to spend her first Christmas without her estranged husband, Ioan Gruffudd. The couple, who share two daughters, announced their separation earlier this year after Ioan filed for divorce in March.
In a series of tweets, the 53-year-old actress admitted she did not expect the festive season to be so difficult. "You know I didn't expect it to be this hard," she wrote. "Here I am with my two girls + our dog and our Christmas tree. It's only our 7th year as a proper family. It's gotten better each time. But now my hub has moved on. New Girlfriend new life. I'm just... I'm still in shock."
Ioan, 48, has since gone public with his relationship with his Harrow co-star Bianca Wallace. Alice has previously claimed that the actor had a three-year affair behind her back and that the new couple are "besotted" with each other.
The couple met on the set of 102 Dalmatians in 2000, got engaged six years later, and married in Mexico in 2007. It was revealed that they split on New Year's Day this year, with Ioan filing for divorce in March.
In an appearance on Lorraine in November, Alice said that Ioan refuses to communicate with her directly, only through lawyers, and rarely speaks to their children via FaceTime. She described the end of the marriage as a shock, having only realised something was wrong when he returned from filming in Australia and gave her a dry kiss on the cheek.
