Journalist Ava Evans has revealed she is facing a torrent of threatening messages on social media following Laurence Fox's vile comments about her on GB News. Appearing on Good Morning Britain, she told Susanna Reid and Ben Shepard that people have told her to 'watch her back' and are 'threatening to come after me'.
Evans, who normally covers trade unions and picket lines, expressed embarrassment over the situation, noting that while many comments are supportive, others are deeply menacing. She described feeling thrown into a 'ridiculous and hyperbolic' debate that has nothing to do with her usual work.
The controversy erupted after Fox, appearing on Dan Wootton Tonight, branded Evans 'pathetic and embarrassing' and asked: 'Who'd want to shag that?' Fox has been suspended from GB News but insists he stands by every word. GB News has apologised for the comments.
Evans also criticised Conservative MPs Jacob Rees-Mogg, Lee Anderson, and Esther McVey for not publicly distancing themselves from Fox's views, suggesting that silence equates to acceptance. She has not yet reported the threats to the police but said she is 'still trying to get my head around all of it'.
