WWE star Alexa Bliss has spoken out against online trolls who target her age and appearance, describing the abuse as 'heartbreaking' for performers who already give everything to entertain fans. The 31-year-old former women's champion urged critics to remember there is a 'person behind the character' when making cruel comments.
In an interview with Metro.co.uk, Bliss explained that wrestlers often perform on little sleep and with battered bodies after travelling four to six days a week. 'We are emotionally exhausted, we are mentally exhausted, we are physically exhausted but we are doing it to entertain everyone else,' she said, adding that personal attacks cross a line that should not be crossed.
Bliss, who could be reunited with Bray Wyatt after his recent WWE comeback, acknowledged that she sometimes does not perform at her best but still gives her 'personal all'. She said: 'It's my physical best. I know it may look like my best, but that's all the energy I had to give that day.'
The star also highlighted the toll of constant criticism, noting that wrestlers go home to their families just like anyone else. 'To have people say such hurtful things back gives us the mentality of, why are we doing this then?' she reflected.
Despite the negativity, Bliss expressed gratitude for supportive fans who appreciate the effort behind the performances. 'We will always give our all, we will always give every moment to the crowd because they deserve it,' she said. 'If it's not enough for some people, it's on them I guess!'
