Former Arsenal and England footballer Alex Scott has shared candid details about her turbulent love life, including a disastrous date with a Coronation Street star and a secret long-term relationship, during her appearance on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!
The Disastrous Coronation Street Date
Scott revealed a particularly awkward dating experience with Sam Robertson, who is best known for his role on the iconic ITV soap. The pair enjoyed a seemingly pleasant, candlelit dinner in London in 2020.
However, the evening was swiftly ruined when their private moment became public news. The next morning, photos of their date were splashed across the press, having been taken by another diner in the restaurant.
Speaking about the incident, Scott told The Sun's Fabulous magazine, "I never seem to have a lot of luck on dates. My one date in ages was going out with Sam [Robertson], who is lovely. The next morning, our pictures were all over the press... It wasn't exactly a great start!"
A Secret Eight-Year Relationship
Prior to her brief romance with Robertson, the 41-year-old sports pundit was in a secret eight-year relationship with her former Arsenal and England teammate, Kelly Smith.
Scott opened up about this significant chapter in her life during the 2022 launch of her memoir, How (Not) To Be Strong. She described it as her "first love story", stating she fell "madly and deeply in love".
"I'm writing this book and I want to tell everything," Scott explained. "I thought I'd be cheating you all if I didn't put that in there. For me, it's like that first love story... it's a huge part of my life, and I wouldn't go back and change that."
Finding Happiness with Jess Glynne
Scott is now in a happy relationship with singer Jess Glynne, who will be watching her tackle the jungle challenges from afar. However, Scott has revealed that their romance has also required some adjustment, largely due to her upbringing.
In a 2024 interview with The Times, Scott explained how being raised by her father, Tony, impacted her ability to express emotion. "We weren't allowed to express emotion," she said. "Dad didn't allow us to hug each other or say 'I love you'. It had a huge impact on us all."
This led to an initially awkward moment with Glynne. Scott recalled, "I remember one of the first times Jess hugged me. I was like... [makes a rigid expression]. She was like, 'Are you not going to put your arms around me?' But I didn't know how to do that. We laugh about it to this day."
Her father, Tony, has since responded to these claims, rejecting the suggestion of a difficult childhood. He stated, "Perhaps she is judging me by today's standards, I don't know. Parents were a lot tougher back then. But I was never violent, that's just not me."
