Adebayo Akinfenwa, the former footballer known as 'The Beast', has embarked on a surprising new career in interior design after retiring from professional football in 2022. The 43-year-old, who played for AFC Wimbledon, Wycombe Wanderers and Millwall, has joined forces with TV property expert Stuart Douglas on a project called Keys or Coffee, an interactive property prize draw.
Akinfenwa briefly ventured into wrestling following his retirement, making his debut alongside Anthony Ogogo at Progress Wrestling in October 2022. However, a persistent shoulder injury forced him to pull out of a scheduled tag match, effectively ending his WWE ambitions. He admitted that scheduling conflicts prevented him from continuing in the ring.
The former striker also appeared on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, describing the experience as 'exhilarating, stimulating and painful'. He confessed to being afraid of heights and water, and ruled out future adrenaline-fuelled TV shows, saying 'never again'. He also dismissed the idea of Strictly Come Dancing or I'm A Celebrity due to his knee and hunger-related irritability.
Now, Akinfenwa is applying his eye for design, sharing his top decor tips: 'I like space, I don't like overly cluttered. I'm a simplest. I like colours and I like lights.' The Keys or Coffee project allows the public to design a home for £3, with a chance to win the property. Akinfenwa described the concept as 'a wicked idea' that combines aspiration with affordability.
